The multi-national and interdisciplinary research project launched in September 2001 and concluded in Spring 2004 has explored the prospects for the emergence of new modes of socio-economic governance in the European Union. In particular, Govecor has focused on the combined impact of the legal provisions for the coordination of employment policy as set out by the Treaty of Amsterdam and the Stability and Growth Pact.
Govecor online provides you with topical information concerning the project. In particular, you will find publications, reports, articles and working papers of the Research Consortium. In addition, links to other information sources relating to the project's research fields as well as a project glossary are provided, which defines and explains key terms and issues in a user-friendly and accessible manner, pointing to literature and other online information sources.
The final results of the research project are the final report and the edited final national reports (which can be downloaded from Publications: Reports). An edited volume, covering the project's results and with the provisional title "EU Economic Governance: A Balance Sheet of New Modes of Governance", will be published by Palgrave in 2005. It will include revised and updated versions of the papers presented at the Final Review Meeting in February 2004 in Brussels.
Research on new modes of governance will continue within the framework of the integrated project NEWGOV, coordinated by the European University Institute and funded by the sixth framework programme of the EU. The aim of this project, starting in summer 2004, is to produce a deeper conceptual, empirical and normative understanding of all aspects of governance within, and beyond, Europe, giving special attention to the emergence, execution, evaluation and evolution of new and innovative modes of governance.
The updating of Govecor online has been stopped in mid-April 2004 which affects in particular sections such as EU-press releases and links. Furthermore, links to external sites might not work anymore at some point in time. This website will remain online at least until April 2008.
